Martin Fierro is the Director of Instrumental Music at Mt. Carmel High School, where he leads the Marching Band, Jazz Band, conducts Concert Band, Wind Ensembles, and directs the Orchestra. Mr. Fierro began his teaching career right here in the Poway Unified School District after completing his student teaching at Mt. Carmel High School.
Before becoming a full-time educator, Mr. Fierro gained valuable teaching experience as a percussion instructor at Redwood High School, and woodwind instructor at Mission Bay Montessori Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from San Diego State University and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music.
An accomplished musician, Martin performs locally as a freelance professional on bassoon and saxophone. His passion as both an educator and performer is to deliver enriching and inspiring musical experiences to students and audiences alike. He has studied saxophone with Dr. Todd Rewoldt, Bassoon with Ryan Simmons, and conducting with Dr. Shannon Kitelinger.
Maya Ginsberg studied violin performance at the University of Oregon and holds a B.A. in music from Skidmore College, an M.A. in music from San Diego State University, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in music education. She is a past member of the North Coast Symphony Orchestra and is the violinist of the Striano Piano Trio. Maya is a lecturer at San Diego State University, the violin clinician at Mount Carmel High School, and teaches violin privately in the San Diego North County area. In addition to teaching, Maya is the owner of Eliana Strings Inc.
Coach Gigi Dorsett first joined the Mt. Carmel Color Guard/Tall Flags as a sophomore and became Captain in her senior year. After graduating, she returned to Mt. Carmel for her first stint as a coach, leading the team to a championship Winter Guard season in her final year.
Now in her second coaching run at Mt. Carmel, Gigi is entering her fifth year in the role. Under her leadership, the team earned a Silver Medal in the Scholastic Open Class at the 2023 WGI World Championships—a proud milestone for the program.
In addition to Mt. Carmel, Gigi has been a coach and clinician at several schools locally, including Vista High School, Hidden Valley Middle School, Torrey Pines High School, San Clemente High School, and Escondido High School. She also spent eight years as a Color Guard instructor with the United Spirit Association (USA) and has served as a judge for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA).
Gigi brings a strong mix of experience, leadership, and passion to every season—committed to helping performers grow both on and off the floor.
Tim Saeger, a San Diego native, is a professional trumpeter and educator with over 20 years of experience. As a versatile freelancer, he performs across genres, including classical orchestras, big band jazz, and everything in-between. He frequently performs with the San Diego Symphony at venues like the Rady Shell and Jacobs Music Center, as well as at the San Diego Zoo, Shadow Mountain Orchestra, and with the Pacific Sound Brass Quintet.
A dedicated teacher, Tim coaches trumpet at Mount Carmel, Del Norte, Westview, and Mira Mesa High Schools.
Through Saeger Studios, his private trumpet studio, he has been the most represented private trumpet instructor in California All-State and Southern Honor Bands in recent years, guiding students to excel in school bands and earn scholarships.

Veronica Hamby has had a long history in music starting way back in the fifth grade when she first picked up the clarinet. She continued to play through high school, and with hardwork and dedication, she earned her spot in the Texas Music Educator Association (TMEA) all-state band, three times. She attended Texas A&M University, taking a hiatus from music, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science. She married her husband after college and had two kids, both of whom were members of Mt. Carmel Marching Band. She re-discovered her love of playing the clarinet in 2009 and joined the Coastal Community Concert Band under the direction of Tom Cole. In 2022, Veronica joined the North County Winds, under the direction of Vince Hernandez, where she's currently the clarinet section leader and board member. She is also a member of the La Jolla Presbyterian Church Orchestra, where she has been a member for six years. For the past two years, she has been invited to perform with Villa Musica Summer Wind Ensemble under the direction of Bill Gilmer. Veronica is a Music Clinician at Black Mountain Middle School for the clarinet section, and also holds private lessons. Veronica recently joined the ranks at Mt. Carmel as the clarinet Music Clinician and is excited to be part of the award-winning marching band.
Kristen Kort holds a Master's degree in Flute Performance from the Boston Conservatory, where she studied under Linda Toote (Principal flute of the Boston Lyric Opera). Kristen received her Bachelor’s of Music in Flute Performance at San Diego State University, studying under Demarre McGill (Principal of the Seattle Symphony) and Pamela Martchev (past Principal of the Boulder Philharmonic). Currently she is principal flute of the San Diego City Ballet Orchestra as well as Opera Neo, and coaches flute students at several high schools in the San Diego area.
Ms Yan's teaching approach combines the fun of learning with a solid foundation in cello technique. She is an accomplished classical cellist and dedicated educator with a passion for both performance and teaching.
Aside from the many hours she spends teaching at her own studio, Ms. Yan is a music instructor at the La Jolla Country Day School and cello section coach of Westview High School. Rancho Bernardo High School. Mt. Carmel High School.
She received her Master of Music Degree from US International University under the instruction of Thomas Stauffer.
