Orchestra Camp provides four days of focused, intensive training designed to elevate our string players' technical skills and ensemble cohesion. Under the expert guidance of our directors and guest clinicians, students engage in sectionals, technique workshops, and full ensemble rehearsals.
This immersive week of musical instruction culminates on Friday evening with our annual Collaborative Camp Concert, featuring performances by the Orchestra, Marching Band, and Color Guard, each showcasing the incredible progress made during their respective camps.
When: Early August (the week before the school year begins). Please check the official Music Calendar for this year’s exact dates and daily schedule.
Where: Mt. Carmel High School Band Room
Drop-Off & Parking: Parents may drop students off directly by the Band Room, or students who drive may park in the main MCHS student parking lot.
Breakfast: Rehearsing requires excellent focus and energy. Please ensure your student eats a healthy, hearty breakfast before arriving each morning.
Lunch: A complimentary lunch is generously provided to all students by the Mt. Carmel Music Foundation during all four days of camp.
Hydration: Bring a large, insulated thermos of water or sports drinks to stay properly hydrated throughout the day.
Daily Attire: Casual and comfortable clothing. Because the Orchestra rehearses inside the air-conditioned Band Room, we recommend bringing a sweatshirt or light jacket in case the room gets chilly.
Outdoor Prep: The Orchestra joins the Marching Band and Color Guard at Sundevil Stadium for lunch. Please bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen for daytime outdoor breaks.
Make sure you arrive with the following essentials every day:
Your instrument (if not already securely stored at school)
Your music binder and a pencil for taking notes
Your outdoor sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses - especially at lunch. Band, Orchestra, Guard Camps take lunch in Sundevil Stadium)
A large water jug
Orchestra Camp is a high-energy "music boot camp" that lays the vital technical and musical foundation for our entire competitive season. It is a cornerstone experience that helps maintain our standing as one of the premier high school music programs in California.
This camp is only possible through the incredible support of our parent community! We are looking for volunteers to help make camp a success. Specifically, we need parents during lunchtime to help set up pop-up tents, assemble dining tables, serve food, and assist with cleanup.
